Cynthia D. Pederson

Ms. Pederson joined the NRC in 1983 as a Resident Inspector in Region III, first at the Dresden Resident Office (Morris, IL) and later the Palisades Resident Office (South Haven, MI), where she inspected nuclear plant performance. Since that time she held a number of progressively responsible positions including Chief, Technical Support Staff; Director of the Enforcement and Investigation Coordination Staff; and Chief of the Reactor Support Programs Branch in the Division of Radiation Safety and Safeguards. Since being selected into the Senior Executive Service in November 1994, Ms. Pederson has served as Deputy Director, Division of Reactor Safety; Director, Division of Nuclear Materials Safety; Director, Division of Reactor Safety; and Director, Division of Reactor Projects. Ms. Pederson became Deputy Regional Administrator in July 2009. Since October 2011, Ms. Pederson has served as the Region III Acting Regional Administrator. As Acting Regional Administrator, Ms. Pederson manages a staff of approximately 225 whose mission is to protect public health and safety by inspecting 24 civilian nuclear power reactors and licensing and inspecting over 1200 materials licensees.

Ms. Pederson graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. She is a recipient of the Presidential Meritorious Rank Award.
