W13  Proposed Emergency Preparedness Regulatory Activities and Incident Response Improvements Following Real-World Events

The NRC will share future plans for emergency preparedness as a result of the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011 that led to the nuclear emergency at the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant.  This session will describe the recommendation from the NRC Near-Term Task Force related to emergency preparedness (Recommendation 9.3), including the impacts of a site-wide prolonged station blackout on multiple reactor units.  Additionally, representatives from the NRC and industry will present initiatives related to resource and communication management during the response to an emergency.
