William Ruland

William H. Ruland, Director, Division of Safety Systems, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR). Prior to joining the NRC, he worked as a digital design engineer for Martin Marietta Aerospace and served in the United States Navy. Mr. Ruland joined the NRC in 1982 in Region II, where he served as a Resident Inspector, Project Engineer in Region II, and as Senior Resident Inspector at the Brunswick Nuclear Power Station in Southport, N.C. From 1990 until he accepted a position as Project Director, Division of Project Management, NRR, in 2002, Mr. Ruland worked in the Region I office in King of Prussia. While in Region I, he held several management positions, including Branch Chief in the Region I Division of Reactor Safety, Electrical Branch. He was selected to his most recent position in May 2007. Prior to his current position, Mr. Ruland was Deputy Director, Licensing and Inspection Directorate, Division of Spent Fuel Storage and Transportation, Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards (NMSS).

Mr. Ruland earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering with a major in Electrical Engineering from the University of Central Florida. He completed the Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program in May 2001.
