United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission - Protecting People and the Environment

Michael Rinker

As director of the Environmental Risk Assessment Division, Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, Mike is responsible for a team of environmental scientists, risk assessors and engineers that regulate Canada's nuclear industry - which includes the richest uranium mines in the world, fuel fabrication facilities, power reactors, research reactors, waste repositories - and smaller facilities that use tritium in their products. His 16 years experience in environmental assessment and protection come from a combination of the private sector as an environmental consultant and as a regulator at the CNSC. Mike is currently the lead for projects in Canada that will lead to strengthening the regulatory framework for the management of mine waste, groundwater protection, and environmental investigations after the discovery of legacy or unexpected environmental contamination.
