Allen Hiser

Allen L. Hiser is the Senior Technical Advisor for License Renewal Aging Management, Division of License Renewal, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR). Dr. Hiser started his Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) career in 1990, as a Materials Engineer in the Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research (RES). After his selection for an NRC Senior Graduate Fellowship (used to pursue his doctorate), Dr. Hiser joined NRR in the Materials and Chemical Engineering Branch, subsequently receiving a promotion as a Senior Materials Engineer in that branch. Dr. Hiser has served as Assistant Branch Chief in the Materials Engineering Branch of RES, and most recently as Chief in the Steam Generator Tube Integrity and Chemical Engineering Branch, NRR. Prior to joining the NRC, Dr. Hiser worked for Materials Engineering Associates, Inc., and the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, studying neutron embrittlement of reactor pressure vessels and fracture toughness of steels used in the fabrication of various nuclear components. Dr. Hiser received Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland at College Park, and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD. In 2005, Dr. Hiser received the NRC Meritorious Service Award.
