Public Involvement in Waste Confidence
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has a long-standing practice of conducting our regulatory, licensing, and oversight activities in an open manner. For that reason, we are committed to informing the public and providing opportunities for participation in our decision-making process regarding Waste Confidence. Toward that end, we periodically hold meetings, conferences, and workshops to inform the public or solicit input. We also occasionally publish documents for public comment. The staff uses information obtained from the public to inform our regulations, guidance, licensing, and inspection processes; environmental reviews; or other activities. Monthly Public Teleconference Status Meetings
To provide an update on activities related to the Waste Confidence rulemaking and preparation of the environmental impact statement (EIS) that will support the revised Waste Confidence rule. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Waste Confidence Directorate staff will provide a brief overview of the recently completed scoping period and an update on the status of the EIS. Interested parties and members of the public are invited to participate and ask questions; however, discussions in this forum will not be considered formal comments.
In an effort to promote transparency and provide an opportunity for open discussion and information sharing, the Waste Confidence Directorate is planning to hold monthly Status Update Teleconferences on the third Wednesday of every month, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. EST.
