High-Level Waste Management Office On-site Representatives Responsibilities
The On-site Representatives Office located in Las Vegas, Nevada, maintains information associated with the potential high-level radioactive waste geologic repository at Yucca Mountain.
NRC's on-site representatives responsibilities include:
- acting as the NRC's point of contact for prompt information exchange and consultation; and
- identifying preliminary concerns with potential licensing issues and relating that information to the NRC management and staff.
A poster and information sheet explaining the on the responsibilities and
duties of the on-site representatives are available. Note that the on-site
representatives currently do not possess direct safety oversight responsibilities,
however they interact with the Department of Energy (DOE) on a daily basis.
The NRC on-site representatives' interactions with the DOE are conducted in
accordance with a public
agreement
.
This agreement helps the NRC prepare to independently review and judge the
soundness of a potential license application.
Bimonthly reports are published on the activities of the NRC on-site representatives. These reports are available at this site from January 2000 to present.
