Why should I save a backup copy of my Digital ID Certificate?
You should backup your digital ID certificate in case your hard drive crashes or your digital ID files are accidentally deleted or corrupted. If you store a backup copy of your digital ID certificate on a floppy disk or a network server in a secure place, then you will be able to re-install your digital ID certificate. If you lose your digital ID certificate and it is not backed up, then you will lose any messages that have been encrypted for you.
How do I save a backup copy of my Digital ID Certificate?
Instructions for backing up your digital ID certificate are provided at the NRC website: Obtain a Digital ID Certificate.
How do I transfer my Digital ID Certificate to a new computer?Instructions for transferring (Export then Import) your digital ID certificate are provided at the NRC website: Obtain a Digital ID Certificate.
I am changing jobs. How do I revoke and delete my VeriSign® Digital ID Certificate?
Instructions for revoking and removing your digital ID certificate are provided at the NRC website: Obtain a Digital ID Certificate.
To revoke a digital ID certificate means to change the status of this certificate to “REVOKED” in a centrally maintained database of certificates. In other words this certificate is added to the Certificate Revocation List (CRL). The CRL is a list of digital ID certificates that have been revoked before their scheduled expiration date.
To delete a digital ID certificate means to remove a copy of a digital ID certificate from a computer or the computer’s browser using the browser software.
When you change jobs or think your digital ID certificate has been compromised, then you both revoke and remove your digital ID certificate. See instructions for viewing your digital ID certificate in order to remove the certificate from your PC’s browser.
Instructions for removing your digital ID certificate are provided at the NRC website: Obtain a Digital ID Certificate. With Internet Explorer Version 6 (IE6), if you don’t have a “Content” tab under the IE6 menu options of Tools / Internet Options then you don’t have the needed permission. From Windows XP, if you go to Start / Settings / Control Panel / Security Center and can’t select Internet Options, then you don’t have the required permission. In this case, you will need to locate a person in your organization with the needed permissions in order to backup needed certificates on your PC and remove unneeded certificates from your PC.
