How do I upgrade from Internet Explorer 6 to Internet Explorer 7?
Before you begin to upgrade your browser software you must export your digital ID certificate to a backup file (such as a memory stick). Instructions for doing this are provided at the NRC website: Obtain a Digital ID Certificate. When doing the certificate export with Internet Explorer 6, make sure to follow the instructions carefully including checking the boxes for:
- Include all certificates in the certificate path if possible
- Enable strong protection (requires IE5.0, NT 5.0 or above)
You can download the latest versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer from the Microsoft Download Center. After you have finished replacing the old browser with the new browser, then import your digital ID certificate back into the new browser. Instructions for doing this are provided at the NRC website: Obtain a Digital ID Certificate.

First make a backup copy by exporting your digital ID certificate(s), ensuring to include all certificates in the certificate path, if possible. You can download the newest versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer from the Microsoft Download Center. Follow the instructions for upgrading your browser provided by Microsoft, your digital ID certificate should be automatically preserved. Do NOT delete your old browser software until you have confirmed that your digital ID certificate actually works with Internet Explorer. Even if you can view your certificate in Internet Explorer that doesn’t mean it will work. The certificate may also require Certificate Authority and path information. Testing your certificate with the NRC application is recommended before you delete older browser software.
