NRC ANNOUNCES
OPPORTUNITY FOR HEARING ON |
|||||||||
| The Nuclear Regulatory Commission
(NRC) has announced the opportunity to request a hearing on an application
from Southern Nuclear Operating Co. (SNC) to renew the operating licenses
for Units 1 and 2 of the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant for an additional
20 years beyond the period specified in the current license. The Farley
plant is located near Dothan, Alabama, and the current operating licenses
for Units 1 and 2 expire on June 25, 2017, and March 31, 2021, respectively.
The deadline for requesting a hearing on the license renewal application is December 5. By that date, petitions must be filed by anyone whose interest might be affected by the license renewal, and who wishes to participate as a party in the proceeding. Petitions for a hearing must be filed with the Secretary of the Commission, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Washington, D.C. 20555-0001, Attention: Rulemaking and Adjudications Staff. They may also be delivered to the NRC Public Document Room at 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland. Copies of the petition should also be sent to:
Additional information about the opportunity for a hearing may be found in the Federal Register Notice on this subject. A copy of the license renewal application is available on the NRC web site at this address: http://www.nrc.gov/reactors/operating/licensing/renewal/applications/farley.html. The application also is available through the NRC’s Agencywide Documents Access and Management Systems (ADAMS). Help in using ADAMS is available by contacting the NRC Public Document Room staff at 301-415-4737 or 1-800-397-4209, or by sending a message to pdr.resource@nrc.gov via e-mail. The documents are also available for inspection at the NRC’s Public Document Room in Rockville, Maryland, and at the Houston Love Memorial Library, 212 West Burdesha St., Dothan, Alabama. NRC staff have determined SNC has submitted sufficient information for the agency to formally “docket,” or file, the application. Docketing the application does not preclude requesting additional information as the review proceeds, nor does it indicate whether the Commission will grant or deny the application. For further information, contact Tilda Liu, License Renewal Project Manager, Division of Regulatory Improvement Programs, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Mail Stop O11-F8, Washington, D.C. 20555; telephone 301-415-1315. |
