NRC TO MEET WITH FIRSTENERGY ON LONG-TERM SAFETY CULTURE PLANS
Printable Version PDF Icon

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will meet with FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company officials on Wednesday, October 1, in Lisle, Illinois, to discuss the company’s long-term plans for monitoring the safety culture of the staff and management at the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station.

The plant, located near Oak Harbor, Ohio, has been shut down since February of last year as the result of corrosion damage to the reactor vessel head.

The company and the NRC have identified weaknesses in the plant’s safety culture as key causes for FirstEnergy’s failure to prevent significant damage to the reactor vessel head.

The meeting will be at 12:30 p.m. CDT in the NRC’s Region III Office, 801 Warrenville Road, Lisle. Visitors should first report to the Second Floor reception area. The public is invited to observe the business portion of the meeting and will have an opportunity to make comments and ask questions of the NRC staff before the meeting is adjourned.

Interested individuals, unable to attend, may listen to the meeting by telephone by calling 888-769-8514. The pass code for this teleconference is “Davis-Besse.” One hundred telephone lines will be available.

The meeting will also be available for viewing by videoconference at the NRC’s Headquarters Office, Room 3B4, One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland.
