NOTE TO EDITORS:

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards has scheduled meetings of four of its subcommittees in Rockville, Maryland.

The subcommittees on reliability and probabilistic risk assessment and on regulatory policies and practices will meet jointly on April 21.

The subcommittee on plant license renewal will meet on April 28-29, followed by a meeting of the subcommittee on severe accident management on April 30.

At the first joint subcommittee meeting, members will discuss staff reconciliation of public comments on performance-based initiatives and the plan for pursuing those initiatives. Also to be discussed is NUREG/CR-5393, "Elements of an Approach to Performance-Based Regulatory Oversight."

At the plant license renewal subcommittee meeting, members will review the NRC staff's safety evaluation report concerning the Calvert Cliffs plant license renewal application.

At the severe accident management subcommittee meeting, members will discuss the Westinghouse Owners Group's proposed revisions to the core damage assessment guidelines and the post accident sampling system requirements for Westinghouse Electric Company nuclear plants.

All meetings will be held in room T-2B3 of the agency's Two White Flint North Building at 11545 Rockville Pike. The first meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. and last until the conclusion of business. The second meeting (on April 28) will begin at 1:00 and the third and fourth meetings will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Other aspects of the meetings, including opportunities for comment, will be described in a forthcoming edition of the Federal Register.
