NRC COMMISSIONER MERRIFIELD TO HOLD PRESS BRIEFING AT TMI

Commissioner Jeffrey S. Merrifield of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission will meet with reporters on Monday, March 29, during a visit to the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant. The press briefing is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. in the auditorium at the plant's training center, which is located on Route 441, behind the TMI Visitors Center. Route 441 is the road adjacent to the Middletown, Pa., plant.

Questions will be restricted to members of the working press.

The Commissioner is traveling to Three Mile Island to tour the facility and meet with representatives of plant operator GPU Nuclear Inc., NRC resident inspector staff and the press. Dr. William D. Travers, the NRC's Executive Director for Operations, will accompany the Commissioner.

Commissioner Merrifield, one of five members of the Commission, began his duties last October.
