Quality Assurance for Nuclear Power PlantsWhat We RegulateQuality Assurance (QA) comprises all those planned and systematic actions necessary to provide adequate confidence that a structure, system, or component will perform satisfactorily in service. Attributes of a QA program include procedures, record keeping, inspections, corrective actions, and audits. The NRC reviews and inspects the quality assurance program and its implementation for nuclear steam system suppliers, architect engineering firms, suppliers of safety-related and commercial grade products and services, calibration and testing laboratories, and holders of NRC construction permits, operating licenses, and combined licenses in quality-related areas. How We RegulateThe NRC performs inspections to determine whether its requirements are being met by a licensee and his contractors. The NRC reviews the quality assurance program of commercial nuclear power plants. For operating plants, the NRC reviews any changes that reduce previous commitments to a nuclear power plant’s QA program. For more detail, see: |
