Seismic Information Workshop
Registration is now closed.
The NRC will be hosted a Seismic Information Workshop to provide a forum for members of the public to gain a basic knowledge of seismic hazard and its applications for the safety and operation of commercial nuclear plants, including specific discussions of the Diablo Canyon facility.
The workshop was held September 8th and 9th, 2010, at the Embassy Suites in San Luis Obispo, California. Information was presented by technical experts from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the United States Geological Survey, the California Geological Survey, California Polytechnic State University, the University of California at Berkeley, the University of California at Santa Barbara, and Pacific Gas and Electric, as well as participation from state and local officials.
Day One (September 8th) – (Video) – was an introduction to seismic hazard focusing on fundamental concepts including the science employed to measure and monitor geologic conditions and the methods used to translate data into commercial nuclear plant design specifications.
Day Two (September 9th) – (Video) – presented seismic hazard information specific to Diablo Canyon Power Plant including an overview of the history of seismic review at the site and an update to the ongoing seismic studies and how the data has been or will be incorporated into the design and operation of the plant.
Please view the proposed agenda for additional details on speakers and presentations. Also please note, it is the intention of the NRC to record this workshop, and post a link to its video archive on the public website soon following the event.
