Dennis Koehl

Dennis Koehl is President, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Nuclear Officer of STP Nuclear Operating Company. In this role, he is responsible for the safe and reliable operation of Units 1 & 2 as well as the overall strategic direction of the company.

Prior to his current position, Koehl was Senior Vice President and Chief Nuclear Officer for Xcel Energy, responsible for activities at the Prairie Island and Monticello nuclear plants.

Koehl joined Nuclear Management Company in 2004 as Site Vice President at Point Beach nuclear plant in Wisconsin. He came to Xcel Energy in October 2007.

Koehl has more than 30 years of experience in the nuclear industry, including positions of increasing responsibility at Tennessee Valley Authority’s Sequoyah and Watts Bar nuclear plants. He has a diverse background in operations, assessment, engineering and plant performance.

He is the Chairman of the Nuclear Energy Institute’s Nuclear Strategic Issues Advisory Committee, and serves on the 12-member U.S. Fukushima Response Steering Committee. Koehl is an executive member of the Electric Power Research Institute’s Nuclear Power Council. He also serves on the board of directors for the Boy Scouts of America Northern Star Council.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. He also served in the U.S. Navy, aboard the U.S.S. Patrick Henry nuclear-powered submarine.
