TH35 Beyond Sirens and Radios: Advances in Public Alert and Notification Systems

This session will discuss the requirements for a backup alert and notification method under the new Emergency Preparedness (EP) rule, and processes the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has established for evaluating existing methods, such as route alerting, and the use of new technologies, as well as requirements for alert and notification system design reports. In addition, FEMA will discuss national efforts for integration of alert and notification under the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) Initiative. Panelists will discuss the challenges that licensees face in addressing this new requirement and implementing new technologies
