TH23 Perspectives on Current and Subsequent License Renewal, Part 1 of 2 (Double Session with TH32)
The NRC Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR) Division of License Renewal (DLR), the NRC Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research (RES) Division of Engineering (DE), a regional representative, industry stakeholders, and international participants will hold a joint panel session to discuss current issues involving license renewal and subsequent renewal topics. The joint panel will be conducted in two sessions. Part 1 will be led by NRR DLR; Part 2 will be led by RES DE.
Part 1—Status of Current License Renewal
To date, the NRC has renewed the licenses of 71 units for an additional 20 years. Some of the plants are already in the extended period of operation. This session will focus on contemporary issues germane to the first renewal (40 years to 60 years). The focus will include lessons learned gained from recent license renewal and operating experience from the perspectives of the regions, industry, DLR, and international community.
