Reactor Safety Arena Activities
In considering which areas of the reactor safety arena to target for greater use of risk information, the staff of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) examined the sources of risk, the existing regulatory processes, and the best opportunities for improvements. On that basis, the staff divided the reactor safety arena into four sub-arenas, each of which benefits from risk-informed and performance-based rulemaking, licensing, and oversight activities. See the following links for the current objective, basis, goals, and risk-informed and performance-based activities for each sub-arena:
- Operating Reactors Sub-Arena
- Advanced Reactors Sub-Arena
